The NAEP Research and Development (R&D) program supports expanding the community of statisticians, psychometricians, assessment specialists, and education researchers who work with NAEP data through training and internship opportunities, as well as through cooperative agreements. NAEP Data Training workshops provide opportunities to learn about the assessment process, item development, data tools, and other NAEP activities and offer hands-on experience in NAEP data analysis. The NAEP Internship Program, which is offered to doctoral students annually, allows them to work with a research organization on NAEP projects. Through NAEP Cooperative Agreements, organizations and individuals are given the opportunity to apply their ideas and techniques to address the challenges facing NAEP.
