Applications are now open for the summer 2024 NAEP Data Training Workshop, which will take place on June 26–28, in Arlington, VA. Advanced graduate students, educational researchers at universities or other research organizations, analysts from state and local education agencies, and those interested in analyzing large-scale assessment data will want to check out this upcoming opportunity to learn how to conduct data analysis using NAEP data.

On June 21–23, the NAEP Research and Development Program hosted its first NAEP High School Transcript Study (HSTS) Data Training Workshop at the headquarters of the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Arlington, VA. In this post, we will share some highlights from the three eventful days of data training using large-scale assessment data from the HSTS.

The first NAEP High School Transcript Study (HSTS) Data Training Workshop hosted by the NAEP R&D program will take place on June 21–23, 2023, in Arlington, VA. At NAEP Day 2022 this past Monday, October 24, the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) presented the 2022 NAEP Mathematics and Reading results, providing the most comprehensive picture to date of the pandemic’s impact on student achievement. 

NAEP researchers Paul Bailey and Ting Zhang and NCES Acting Branch Chief of Reporting and Dissemination Emmanuel Sikali presented a one-day course on Analyzing NAEP and TIMSS Data with Direct Estimation Using the R Packages EdSurvey and Dire at the 2022 IMPS Conference in Bologna, Italy.
