A new cohort of summer interns has joined the NAEP R&D program! These interns are hard at work engaging in methodological developments and conducting secondary analysis using NAEP data. A couple of our new interns, Jazzmine Waugh and Talal Khan, have taken a moment to answer some questions and introduce themselves to the NAEP R&D community.

The NAEP R&D program has recently welcomed a new cohort of summer interns who are just getting started learning about and working with NAEP data. While the program moves forward, we are taking a look back, talking to NAEP Doctoral Internship Program alumna Hailey Kuang to hear about her experience participating in the program and NAEP research.

Last month, NAEP researchers Ruhan Circi and Juanita Hicks, along with Emmanuel Sikali, acting branch chief of reporting and dissemination in the Assessment Division at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), published their mini-review article titled “Automatic Item Generation: Foundations and Machine Learning-Based Approaches for Assessments.” The article was published in the open-access journal Frontiers in Education.

As the NAEP R&D program prepares for the next cohort of summer interns, we caught up with recent NAEP Doctoral Internship Program alumnus Eric Ho to hear his perspective on the program and the work he’s done with NAEP data.
