Applications for the NAEP Doctoral Student Internship Program remain open through February 1. Now in its ninth year, the program will select a new cohort of interns for this paid opportunity to work directly with NAEP researchers from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Interns will analyze NAEP data, contribute to the development of statistical methods, and help inform education policy.

The NAEP research community was hard at work in 2024 exploring new ways to deepen our understanding of student academic achievement and assessment in the United States. We here at the NAEP R&D Hub have shared it all along the way, highlighting the work of innovative researchers (especially in emergent fields such as AI), disseminating news about new and improved tools for researchers, and bringing awareness to relevant conference opportunities and presentations. As we enjoy the holiday season and look forward to a new year and new NAEP internship opportunities, we’d like to look back on some of the NAEP R&D Hub highlights of 2024.

The National Council for Measurement in Education’s (NCME) Graduate Student Issues Committee (GSIC) and Educators of Measurement (EoM) Special Interest Group in Measurement in Education (SIGIMIE) are hosting The Lifecycle of an Internship, a webinar designed to give more insight on the education measurement internship process, from2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on November 13, 2024.

The 2024 Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology (FCSM) Research and Policy Conference will be held October 22–24, 2024, in Hyattsville, Maryland. This year’s theme, “The Relevance, Timeliness, and Integrity of Federal Statistics,” reflects the FCSM’s role in providing a forum for statisticians to discuss issues of statistical methodology as they relate to federal agencies and statistical programs. In this post, we provide an overview of upcoming presentations at the FCSM conference from NAEP researchers and NAEP Doctoral Internship Program alumni.

The 49th International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) Annual Conference will be held in Philadelphia in just a few days, on September 22–25, 2024. This year’s theme explores the growing interest in artificial intelligence by asking, “How Can AI Help Improve Educational Assessments?” In this post, we highlight upcoming IAEA presentations from NAEP researchers and NAEP Doctoral Student Internship Program alumni.
