Applications for the NAEP Doctoral Student Internship Program remain open through February 1. Now in its ninth year, the program will select a new cohort of interns for this paid opportunity to work directly with NAEP researchers from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Interns will analyze NAEP data, contribute to the development of statistical methods, and help inform education policy.

EdSurvey 4.0.7 was recently released and is now available on CRAN-R. This update enables EdSurvey to support the analysis of main NAEP data up to 2022, NAEP long-term trend data up to 2023, the 2022 Monthly School Survey (MSS) Linking Study, and the 2021 School and Teacher Questionnaire Special Study. In addition, the package now supports two international large-scale assessments: PISA 2022 and ICILS 2023. A new rounding feature has also been introduced to facilitate rounding results according to NCES statistical standards or user-defined criteria. Applications are now open for the summer 2024 NAEP Data Training Workshop, which will take place on June 26–28, in Arlington, VA. Advanced graduate students, educational researchers at universities or other research organizations, analysts from state and local education agencies, and those interested in analyzing large-scale assessment data will want to check out this upcoming opportunity to learn how to conduct data analysis using NAEP data.

Doctoral students can continue to apply through February 2 for the opportunity to work with data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) alongside NAEP researchers from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Applicants to the 2024 NAEP Doctoral Student Internship Program will indicate their intent to conduct research in a variety of topic areas; to provide additional context for those weighing their choices, NAEP researchers Cadelle Hemphill and Brittany Boyd have answered some questions about the Re-envisioning Quantitative Information (data visualization) topic area.

With one month left to apply for the 2024 NAEP Doctoral Student Internship Program (applications close on February 2), we’d like to introduce the NAEP research community to our new internship topic area: artificial intelligence (AI).
